In 2021 I was asked by a client to provide advice and guidance on the best approach to take in order to convert an empty garage space into an artist's studio and gallery.

The original garage space is part of a Victorian house which sits above the garage. With this there were key aspects of the conversion that needed to be considered to make the space functional, such as, suitable head height, insulation for sound and heat, and the installation of general services such as water supply and electricity. I also provided advice on the costs associated with the conversion, which enabled the client to make an informed decision about their budget in order to carry out the work.

Based on my advice and guidance, the client engaged an architect to draw up plans to be submitted to their local authority for approval. These plans were vital because the property is located in a conservation area, where the external works to the property had to meet local planning policy. Once approved by the local authority, the client was able to commission a building contractor to carry out the works. Prior to engaging with building contractors I provided advice on what works needed to be carried out in order to maximize the most from their budget and plans.

As result of my service, the client created a beautiful, stylish and functional studio space within their desired plans and budget.
